I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bryan Grubb. I was born with Usher’s Syndrome. This means I was born without hearing and over time I am also losing my sight. Please allow me a moment to discuss my capabilities (instead of my disability).

I have always tried to excel in whatever I do. I graduated from the Ohio School for the Deaf for both elementary and high school. I also attended and graduated from RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf, where I specialized in computer operations. I recently graduated from the Helen Keller National Center in Long Island, New York, where I studied manufacturing assembly procedures. I am currently upgrading my computer skills.

I have worked for IBM, Xerox and the Internal Revenue Service, all in computer operations and data entry. While I was at the IRS, I also examined tax returns for fraud. I am currently retired from the IRS.

I have a strong desire to return to work, even though I am retired. I have been working with WorkNet, the Community Employment Services arm of the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities. After making many, many contacts and having several interviews, I realized that returning to work was going to be more challenging that I had first envisioned. Potential employers had a hard time understanding how someone who was deaf and blind and did not communicate in the traditional way could be an asset to their organization.

It was in March of 2006 that I was asked to speak at the Developmental Disability month breakfast at the UCBDD. It was after that talk that someone suggested I become a motivational speaker. That was the beginning of my company BRG Motivational Solutions. I have now given a number of paid motivational speeches and marketing efforts are taking place so that my business can continue to flourish. I now believe that I am doing exactly what I have been called to do.

I also contribute to the community by volunteering to be a mentor to children and young adults who are also deaf/blind. I feel my experience can be very helpful to them.

Thanks for listening! As you can tell, I enjoy talking more about what I can do than what people think I cannot do!!
